Thiruvananthapuram: Mannanthala police on Saturday arrested two Assam natives who were in possession of 1.5kg of ganja. The arrested have been identified as Sujith Sheel (36) and Mrunal Asarji, 25, residents of Hojai, Assam, who were residing in a migrant labor camp at Mannanthala. The arrested have been remanded in judicial custody
According to Mannanthala SHO Rakesh J, the suspects were apprehended from Mukkola based on a tip-off received about large scale ganja sale being carried out by migrant labourers across Mannanthala – Mukkola regions. “The suspects followed a modus operandi of buying stuff from North Eastern states and packing them into small packets for sale. The main targets of the sales were school-college students and migrant laborers of the locality, who regularly brought the stuff from the detainees. The stuff confiscated from the suspects was brought from Nagaland. We have decided to strengthen raids across the migrant labour camps in Mannanthala in a bid to nab others involved in the sales of narcotics,” he said.

Following directives of city police commissioner P Prakash, the team led by Mannanthala SHO Rakesh J, ASI Krishna Lal, crime S I Babu, CPO Sibi, Ratheesh and Nasar made the arrest. More
