The Kochi City Shadow Police on Saturday foiled attempts to smuggle in hashish and ganja to the city ahead of Vishu and Easter celebrations.
Afsal, 24, of Chavakkad in Thrissur, and Adi Shankar, 24, of West Bengal were arrested allegedly with 30 grams of hashish and 200 grams of ganja respectively.
According to the police, the seized items were worth ₹1 lakh in the market. The arrests were made following a tip-off received under the Connect to Commissioner initiative of District Police Chief (Kochi City) S. Surendran.
The operations leading to the arrests were carried out simultaneously at two locations by shadow teams led by Special Branch Assistant Commissioner S.T. Suresh Kumar.
Afsal had plans to exchange hashish with his clients at a multiplex cinema in the city. Small, five-gram packs of hashish were seized from him. He was later handed over to the Kalamasserry police.
Adi Shankar was arrested while he was selling ganja near Infopark. The police said he mainly targeteded taxi drivers. He was handed over to the Infopark police. More
