Excise officials have arrested a 42-year-old man accused of selling ganja to school and college students in the Kazhakuttam and Technopark area.
The accused has been identified as A.Rajendran from Theni district of Tamil Nadu. Ganja weighing 1.1 kg was recovered from him. A case has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
He was produced in court and remanded.
The Excise Department had received information that sales and consumption of ganja has been increasing in the Technopark area. The accused was taken into custody following a month-long investigation in Tamil Nadu. Rajendran used to allegedly purchase ganja from Tamil Nadu at ₹1,000 per kg and sell it at ₹8000 to those who buy from his native place in Cumbum and at ₹10,000 for bringing it to Thiruvananthapuram.
He was arrested by an Excise team consisting of Excise Inspector C.P.Praveen, Preventive officer Sajith, Civil Excise officers Prakash, Subhash, Binu, Jithesh and Vineetha Rani. More
