The Mangaluru city police, in their continued crackdown on drugs, have arrested four inter-state ganja peddlers and seized 10kg of ganja, a car, scooter and cellphones, which are totally valued at Rs 5 lakh. They were arrested near Thokkottu on Wednesday.
P S Harsha, city police commissioner, Mangaluru, termed it as major drug cartel bust. The arrested are Aboobakkar Samada, 24, a resident of Majir Palla, Manjeshwara; Mohammed Ashraf, 30, a resident of Varkady, Manjeshwara; Mohammed Afrid, 22, a resident of Kadambar, Kasaragod and Mohammed Arshad,18, a resident of Kadambar, Kasaragod. Explaining their modus operandi, PS Harsha said they operated across the coast, starting from Maharastra and up to Kerala. They procured ganja directly from growers in Maharashtra, and transported it to Goa, Karnataka and Kerala for selling. “Apart from ganja, the accused were also involved in peddling synthetic drugs. Police have been investigating about their criminal antecedents. We will speak to our counterparts in Maharashtra to get more details about the racket,” said Harsha. More
