Puducherry: The Puducherry police arrested seven people all aged between 20 and 28 years on charges selling ganja to tourists and locals including school students.
Police seized 6.6kg ganja and four mobile phones from their possession. The seized items worth Rs 2.25 lakhs.
Senior superintendent of police (law and order) Rahul Alwal said a team from Mudaliarpet police station on receiving a tipoff that ganja peddlers were selling the contraband to students of a private school in Velrampet swung into action and raided the areas in and around the school. The team members, who functioned under the direct supervision of the superintendent of police (south) Chintha Kothandaraman, found three men selling ganja to school students and they attempted to intercept the three men.
However, the three managed to escape. The team succeeded in tracing the three in a few hours. On inspection, the team found the three men in possession of 33 sachets of ganja leaves each roughly weighing 6g. The team seized 240g ganja and two mobile phones from the possession of peddlers.
